Our Mission

The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans estimates that nearly 25% of America's homeless are veterans. Nearly 58% served in the Vietnam era and another 25% served prior to Vietnam.

These men and women who once served our country have since lost their way. Whether due to mental illness, drug, or alcohol abuse, or other misfortunes, they now have no place to go and little hope for the future.

TLS believes that those who so selflessly sacrificed their youth to defend our freedom deserve a second chance. Veterans who have the desire to work toward a new start will be provided the highest quality of services available in a humane and compassionate manner, which promotes dignity and personal choice.

Through counseling, substance abuse treatment, vocational training, healthcare, and peer support programs, TLS helps homeless veterans get back on their feet as productive members of society.

"Giving Veterans a new beginning".
How We Help

The first step to guiding homeless veterans to a fulfilling and dignified life is making sure that their basic needs are met. TLS provides shelter and a number of transitional services at New Horizons Veterans Center in Hebron, Illinois. The facility currently has the capacity to house 20 homeless veterans.

At TLS we believe the majority of factors that contribute to an individual's decline into homelessness can be treated. Our program is designed to help each resident improve self-image and to teach the skills necessary to achieve independant living. Each resident works with a case manager and creates a program that addresses particular needs.

A program might include case management, educational and employment assistance, financial counseling and substance abuse treatment.
